So there’s a Maaco right next door to the credit union I work at. This GTI was parked there a little earlier, so I took a picture and thought I would share.

has to be done right. the gold/white combo and those wheels on that car is not an example of that.

I’m a much bigger fan of bronze over gold. But either way, it only works when certain color vehicles, and with certain wheel styles. In the example given, I like the wheels, but not so much in that color (it would look much better in bronze in this case).

It needs style. GTIs dont have such a style.

I had gold Forgestars on my dark grey BRZ, but ultimately didn’t dig it so I sold them. I really only like gold on WRB cars.

I don’t like it. haha But i’m Biased against white. I do not like white cars. White/silver blah... worst car colors ever.*
* there are a few exceptions.

My OEM wheels are gold so I definitely am a fan of gold wheels.

Gold wheels mostly get a thumbs up from me. Not those wheels (or any directional wheels) , and I prefer a less yellowy gold.
Something like this:
I could see the style 666 wheels looking awesome in gold too:

Wrong shade of gold. Needs to be lighter shade.

The gold on those GTI whe els may be a bit too garish
Maybe more bronze than gold? I think it can work but it it pretty dependent on the car color as well.

I’m a fan o f gold but more restrained than that bling bling one. I’ve put matte vintage gold wheels on my last 3 cars

I think gold wheels look best with a black car and certain wheel designs seem better suited to gold. Something like a classic BBS basketweave or Pontiac snowflake.

still hating on the white, but in the case works with the gold. it’s right wheels and right shade for the right car.. but still hate the white :P

Gold wheels look great on dark green cars like my Miata.

It can look good, but like anything in life, it has to be done in a tasteful fashion. There’s gold and then there’s Trumpian/Saudi GOLD!! !, and I think the wheels on that VW are in the latter category. It helps when the wheel isn’t monochrome.

I’m with ya. I hate white cars. Not a big fan of silver either.

This is a timely post as I am considering painting the wheels on my El Camino bronze or gold and leaving the silver lip . Plasti Dip is the most likely candidate. Not sure how it will look on a car with two colors though.
The front is also getting lowered and the rear tires will be smaller as well.

Haha yeah I didnt like white before I bought the car either. But really I think my problem was that I dont like dirty white cars. When clean, white can look very nice. It becomes “dull” easily when dirty and that looks like shit. Now I have an appreciation for white although I still would prefer a real color. But beggars cant be choosers when it comes to used car shopping lol.

The thing is with you using Plasta D
ip
you can always take it off if you decide you don’t like it, so there’s that at least.

Yup, I generally think any shade of gre y/silver, white, or black are all useless options that soooooo many people choose just to be “safe”. Some cars look good in pretty much any color but yeah I wish there were more reds, blues, greens, purples, oranges, and other more exotic colors on cars.
Something really entertaining to do is what cars that drive by in a place like NYC. More than 99% of the cars will be some shade of silver/grey. Those 1 or 2 red cars that you see just pop out beautifully. But even red is a boring color sometimes just because it’s the “go-to” fun color.

My thoughts exactly. I want a change and after pricing wheels and looking at different wheels, I really can’t find any I like at a price that makes any sense. G oing to 17's would be cool (has 15's now) but then I am into a set of tires for $500 as well. So I figured a color change on what I have might be the easiest solution. Anthracite is an option as well.

gold wheels can look great. those look like cheaply plated shit.

I’ve seen those exact wheels on a purple S14. They looked better on the Nissan, cuz they fit

Gold whites on white cars, fine.
Those wheels on that car, that’s a no from me.

Taste. This GTI owner has no taste.

The gold isn’t bad. I do feel a dark bronze is a better fit for a white car though.

Yes. Especially with blue cars. I miss my Rex. I’m thinking about getting steelies for my orange BMW amd painting them gold.

Not a big fan of them on cars.. I think it’s a bit garish/vulgar...
But on a bike.......
